Photo Frenzy

Hi there!!!!

The sun shines!!!! wooooh! :)

And I just had a Barbeque (When it rained..) for my friends to celebrate my birthday :). Good times :).

Anyway, last monday I had a burst of inspiration (not too much but everything went smoothly). And I made this:

Lightsensor combined with a Pot Meter from FrankBorsboom on Vimeo.

It's almost the same set up like last week but now I added a potmeter that sets a delay between the beeps. which creates this funky syntesizer-ish sound :).

The only thing that seems to go wrong is that the delays, or intervals, get longer as the tone is higher. Somehow that kind of messes up the program and it also sometimes just stops the Arduino completely. Maybe I need to get into the documentation to see how the tone() function works...

But this is kind of all that I did this week!... I'm sorry... But the Barbeque and the coming back of Aurora from China took pretty much all my time so I couldn't really do to much...

But with the good weather I could make some pictures of some cool stuff, like my presents :D.

First off all an update on my mint plat (Don't know why that would concern you but I like it :D):

It grew a lot taller! :)

From my housemates I have gotten a spice garden to grow my own spices. The ones that are already in there are these (don't know yet what it is...):

I also planted some seeds that I got from my mother, which are some kind of rucola flavoured small plants (don't know the English word.... sorry). And I put them in my old Mokka Pot! :

And talking about coffee, some nice new glasses that I got:

And finally, the last but certainly not the least, my cardboard bird house, hopefully put on a good spot :) :

So, that was it,... my photo frenzy.

I hope you liked it :)

I did :)

ok I'll go now

cheers!

misc

okay, so Now I can finally show you the pictures! :)

This is the picture of the little motor with the wire around it. This was my way of making sure it worked and to see how long it would turn.

If you look carefully here you can see the spindle wher the wire comes from. You can also see my grass green carpet and the mess that is currently part of my room :).

Anyway, I decided to stop these experiments as it only resulted in not really going anywhere fast. So as I now had a speaker at my service I decided I test it. So this is a really cool picture, which hopefully shows you my setup.

There is the headphone speaker, the light sensor and way in the back the Arduino :). (A bit vague though...) It's kind of fun to play with this set up because it is very interactive, as it reacts on your hand, and even better on a small flash light.

here's a video to proof it :)

Arduino soundcheck from FrankBorsboom on Vimeo.

I like the high pitched sound that you get with the flashlight. It could of sounds like a way to scratch :) Yeah, DJ monk-eh in tha house!.

pffff.... that was stupid...

I also went ahead and tried a little bit of VVVV. in the last tutorial (which comes way to fast! I need more tutorials!) I needed to make some squares react to my mouse. Apparently this was really easy with the help of a function which gives you the length of the distance between the mouse and the squares.

But it is quite hard with this program to find good documentation so I need to figure out how to proceed with it. I already found a way to use my webcam so now I want something to react on that input (Maybe the squares again?) but I don't know how...

I guess that people use MAX for this reason, (the documentation). hopefully I'll find more things to do with VVVV.

This little program made me look:

And makes me think about using processing more often to make something like graphs... or something. I don't know yet. What I need is a goal! :) :)

hopefully till next week!

Birthday :)

WooHoo! it's my birthday :D lot of cake ooooh :)

I got a soldering iron! so now I can solder all my connections perfectly! :)

And a bag to keep my laptop save while traveling which will be very handy indeed!

To give you an update on my project of the sungreeter I must say that it is going pretty well. I tested it a couple of days this week and everything seemed to go alright. I put some string on one of the gears. This made it wind up so I could see if it had worked when I wasn't there and also a bit how long it turned. And that worked pretty well. Except that it locked itself one time by making a loop by accident and making a knot on itself. But other than that it worked fine :).

But I think that I will finish this project now because it kind of stops my flow of testing things. Now that I can use my broken headphones as audio Output I want to experiment with that. And hopefully I will get more experience more quickly like this. And then I can test the sungreeter when the sun is more out there :). So in about a month I think. And maybe I can add some other things that it can detect and react to. (And also give it something more interesting to do, maybe using the speakers eh?)

Also I tried some tutorials of VVVV. which is quite interesting but still nothing amazing or slightly interesting came out of it yet. (I've put 5 dots on my screen output! amazing isn't it?) Maybe Later I can use the Arduino as Input or Output device to make it react maybe...

I need to figure out how the arduino can store data and upload it to my laptop when I connnect it to it later. ...

anyway, later this week i hope to put some pictures here to show you the string :) (amazingly interesting pictures I promise :))

cheers!
