Mew...

Hi There!

Um... this week has been a bit weak with new updates... I haven't done anything amazing... ah well You can't do that every time, can you? :) And besides it has also been Christmas and everything so I haven't really had any time to do anything. So....

I did do something... I continued with the tutorials from Arduino.cc and made some process, though kind of little. But i did learn some more coding thing which might come in handy some time later, so nothing is changing on the surface, undeneath the surface things are changing... little by little :)

Something that i made to show you what I did is this:

It's a little GIF of a thing i made for a tutorial, which I think I can make better (or at least cooler) with a Potentiometer. though we'll see about that later. (sometimes the GIF acts a little funny... but you should see the lights turn on and off subsequently.)

Come back next week! hopefully I have made some other progress. And I am going to Goettingen during the weekend! so I will ty to make a Video of it.. Lets see how that will work :).

see you next week!

ciao!

Ardiuno, the start :)

Okay, so the first week went well :), but that was easy as it is a bit of a holiday.

To get myself started again I needed to repeat some tutorials to get used to the code again so first I made the hello world!

The Arduino was able to turn it's own LED on and off! wow! that's great, isn't it? I enjoyed it :), but still it is just a Arduino way of saying Hello World! so I moved on:

The next tutorial needed me to take control of the LED, so with a small circuit i created a push button and I could turn the LED on and off just by pressing a button.

Amazing isn't it? just by making that slightest finger movement electrons are sent back and forth, and suddenly a LED turns on, or off.

To make things a bit more interesting it was necessary to us a Potentiometer. This potentiometer is a strange but interesting thing that I've never used before. :). It is a turning nob that creates a resistance according to the angle it is turned. And as you can probably imagine, I was very exited to see what we could do with it.

The tutorial asked me to make the Arduino send some numbers back to my laptop that showed the position of the Potentiometer.

But hey, you are probably also not that exited about that! we want more! we need more..... So, I remembered that the Arduino programming environment is based upon Processing. Which, incidentally, I still had installed. So I looked at the tutorials for Arduino and found one that plots a graph, so I took the code and looked what would happen.

Nice hey? mhew... Not especially, but we need to start somewhere right? (Enough with the questions!!!)

To enjoy this code a little bit more I needed to change some values here and there and changed some functions, creating the following beauty.

After experimenting a bit more I came to the following, a sort of triangle thingy that adjusts the height of the triangle based upon the position of the potentiometer. And I made it to save a JPG at the end of each cycle.

The only thing that rests is making it save under a different name, a lot of beauties have been lost... :(

But what now? I'll tell you: more tutorials to get acquainted with new types of code, and see what ideas will spring to mind.

Sounds maybe? a new musical instrument, or is that just not that original?

we'll see...

see you next week!!! :D

A new start? or something like that

Hi there!

How 're you doing? Okay, so here's the deal: I want to find out if I like some things and if I do I need to get better with it.

"So what are you talking about then?" you might ask. Well... I've always followed things from CreativeApplications.net and the interactive physical prototypes sometimes presented at NotCot.org, and I think I want to do things like these, but I still need to find out. I had already a little taste and it tasted really good, so now I want to see if I like the complete dish.

"But why now?" Because I found out that I'm never really focused on one subject but always pass through some subjects every week. And this doesn't really help me with finding something i might be good in. So now i've found this subject that i want to explore.

"What do you want to explore?" Some programs and projects that I've found or thought of. I've found programs like vvvv and Processing which i want to find out, and also I would like to start experimenting with and Arduino.

Arduino

"An Arduino you say?" Yeah! a great piece of technology that I happen to be able to borrow from some really cool people.

"So what now?" I'll post a post every week with a new experiment, thinking process, concept, update on my improvements.

"Good luck" Thanks :) I'll make diner now ...
